River Running
River Running

Desert rivers can be challenging.
They are not for the inexperienced boater.

Randy Fabrese, professional river guide of Colorado River fame designs and builds custom one person inflatables specially designed for the Gila and San Francisco Rivers.

The boats in these photos are examples of his work.

The Run

Important Feedback from Recent Visitors:
Please warn any boater starting this run that the way things are now, that it's anything but a leisurely float. From the years of no-major-floods the trees have grown in the channel, beavers have cut the trees into the channel, trees have fallen into the channel, trees trees trees.

First off, anyone with boats much bigger than ours will find the channels too narrow, and the duck-unders too low, meaning a lot of portage.

A small folding saw is sometimes a help.

Boaters should be good enough to catch small eddies in fast current and offside eddies at blind corners.

Also a hazard is the Martinez dam. Randy knew the slot, but anyone new should scout on the right.

A fence 2 or 3 miles below the ranch is also a bad one. Can't see it till you're right on it, and it's in a tight , fast channel.    Whee !
